Volunteer Committee Information

Membership Committee

Charter: The Membership Committee shall receive all applications for membership and act upon them in accordance with provisions of Articles XIV and XV to fill vacancies in the membership as established by the Board under Article III, Section 11.

What We Do:

  1. Oversee efforts that support the membership goals of QYC (recruitment and retention).
  2. Introduce new members to opportunities like the First Mate Program, New Member Dinner, etc.
  3. Works in coordination with the Communication and Marketing and Events/Entertainment committees.

Club Documentation Committee

Charter: Organize and ensure club documents are organized, maintained, and available. Ensure that a documentation system is set up to accommodate different access levels for editing and viewing documents and for revision control of published hard copies associated with member facing club operations which are published in hard copy or online. Identify informational documents, training material, guides and FAQs that could benefit club members. Work with club members to grow the library of available information.

What We Do:

  1. Create and manage the organization and distribution of member guides, operational and informational documents.
  2. Help new members learn about the workings of the club in coordination with the Membership Committee.
  3. Make club resources easier to use for existing members.
  4. Work with membership committee to manage and organize new member documents
  5. Work with club Secretary to ensure the organization of documents as outlined in the constitution
  6. Support other committees with documentation management
  7. Recruit Subject Matter Experts to help with creating and maintaining instructional documents

Race Committee

Charter: It shall be the duty of the Race Committee to arrange all races and record all results; make and publish regulations for the conduct of the same in accordance with the USYRU, or successor organization, and rules of the club, award all prizes and decide all protests; and to cause all yachts enrolled in, or entering the races of the club to be measured when requested by any person racing within the same class or the Measurer.

What We Do:

  1. Oversee the Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoon races (course setting, timing, and safety/rescue operations)
  2. No racing experience is necessary to volunteer for the Race Committee! We can teach you everything you need to know.

House & Grounds Committee

Charter: Plans and supervises work in maintenance of club building and grounds, to include:

  1. Upkeep of building, grounds and parking lot, exclusive of racks for tenders and boat hoist.
  2. Cleanliness of building and grounds to include areas bordering the club grounds.
  3. Disposal of trash and garbage.
  4. Procurement of maintenance, cleaning and other supplies, exclusive of those for the kitchen.
  5. Upkeep of club furnishings and picnic tables.
  6. Security of building and adjacent areas.

What We Do:

  1. Maintain and improve the Clubhouse and Grounds.
  2. Perform activities for the regular upkeep of the club, including lawn and gardens, furniture, parking lot, clubhouse, kitchen, disposal of trash and recycling, etc.

Wharves (Docks and Tenders)

Charter: The Wharves Committee shall be responsible for setting out, maintaining, and taking in all wharves, and club tenders. It plans and supervises:

  1. Installation, removal and maintenance of wharves and floats.
  2. Procurement and maintenance of club tenders.
  3. Maintenance of boat hoist, slings, and hoist facility exclusive of ramp.
  4. Obtains supplies and materials required in performance of functions.

What We Do:

  1. Oversee the maintenance and replacement of docks, mooring field, trailers/dollies, and tenders (rowboats).
  2. Kick off our boating season with Docks In Day.
  3. As honorary members of the Goose Poop Patrol, come up with inventive ways to combat the "unauthorized use" of QYC docks.

Youth Sailing Program Committee

Charter: Organize and implement member and community-wide programs which provide educational and recreational sailing opportunities for children under 18.

What We Do:

  1. Organize and implement Youth Sailing programs, including the Summer Sailing program and Youth Racing Series (in conjunction with the Race Committee).

Entertainment Committee

Charter: The Entertainment Committee shall provide and take charge of the Spring Meeting, all cookouts, and Annual Banquet unless otherwise directed by the Commodore. Other special functions may be assigned by the Commodore.

What We Do:

  1. Bolster the sense of QYC community through in-person events.
  2. Plan and oversee the Spring Meeting, club cookouts throughout the season, and the Annual Banquet (invitations, decorations, set-up, service, and clean-up).

Marketing & Communications Committee

Charter:

What We Do:

  1. Oversee Club marketing, create content for Club website and social media pages/feeds (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).
  2. Maintain connections with surrounding community organizations and events.
  3. Respond to community inquiries.

Club Sailboats Committee

Charter: Provide QYC with a safe fleet of boats that can be used by club members.

What We Do:

  1. Maintain an inventory, regularly inspect and perform needed maintenance on all sailboats in the Club fleet.
  2. Survey the membership and work with the QYC Board and Long Range Planning Committee to establish a fleet that is best suited for QYC members going forward.

Fleet Captain Team Committee

Charter: It shall be the duty of the Fleet Captain to arrange for and supervise maintenance and operation of the dock-mounted pump, and the club launches, to instruct members in proper operation of the launches and to designate those who are qualified. The Fleet Captain shall exercise general supervision over the club anchorage and establish necessary rules for safe moorings.

What We Do:

  1. Act as the primary contact for members of the various fleets.
  2. Oversee the maintenance of Club power boats, maintain list of members qualified to operate Club power boats
  3. Oversee maintenance and operation of the dock-mounted pump, and club launches.
  4. In 2022, a sub-committee to rebuild/replace Kon-Tiki (Race Committee Boat) will be designated by the Fleet Captain Team Committee.

Long-Range Planning Committee

Charter: The purpose of the Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC) is to perform long range planning, including the evaluation and prioritization of improvement projects for the next fiscal year and future capital improvement programs for the next 5 to 10 years.

What We Do:

  1. The Long-Range Planning Committee advises the Board on recommendations for expenditures from the Club's Capital Fund. Proposals are voted on by the Membership, at the Annual Spring Meeting.
