QYC Racing Rules
RULES
- The races will be governed by the rules as defined in the current Racing Rules of Sailing. and any applicable class rules, including class specific safety sections. (Some agreed upon tolerance will be allowed to encourage local participation.)
- QYC requires that everyone ware a PFD while racing. [When on the water all competitors are required to wear a Coast Guard approved Personal Floatation Device (PFD). See rule 40.]
- If there is a conflict between the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions will take precedence. This changes RRS 63.7.
ENTRIES
Competitors shall be members of the QYC and any guests as approved by the regulations of the Board of QYC
NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located inside the club house.
CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted 1 hour before on the day it will take effect. Any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 1 hour before start of race on the day it will take effect.
SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole located in front of the club. If a postponement is signaled ashore, the warning signal will be made not less than 15 minuses after flag AP is lowered. When no boats are on the water, signals may be verbal, if given in such a way as to assure all boats are informed.
SCHEDULE OF RACES
2:00 PM (Sundays) or 7:00 PM (Wed) race start .
The warning signal[s] for the first race should be 6:55 PM on Wednesdays and 1:55 PM on Sundays. [As these are local races we should be as flexible as is reasonably possible. Subsequent races each day will be held as soon as practical, after the end of the previous race.]
Three races are recommended but weather and other concerns dictate what actually happens on the water. Also the decision by RC sometimes allow for fewer or more races per day.
CLASS FLAGS
Flags on Kon tiki RC boat will be displayed to denote which class is racing when using Kon Tiki.
RACING AREAS
Quannapowitt Lake as noted in the club for the location of racing area.
THE COURSES AND MARKS
Temporary circular marks will be used for racing.
The course[s] will be displayed on the port side of Kon Tiki of the committee boat as per US Sailing. The letter indicates the type of course to be raced. A number indicates how many times the course will be execute. All marks will be described in SI. The course is displayed in order from the top down. Reference Race Course Appendix A as a small example of type of courses to set, also look at book in the Kon-tiki.
THE START
- Races will be started using the 3 minute dinghy start sequence.
- The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the race committee signal boat at the starboard end and the course side of the port-end starting mark.
- Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area during the starting sequence for other fleets.
CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE
To change the next leg of the course, the race committee will lay a new mark and
remove the original mark as soon as practicable.
THE FINISHThe finishing line will be between a staff displaying a blue flag (if no blue flag is available, then an orange flag) on a race committee boat and the course side of the finishing mark.
TIME LIMITS
The time limit for each race will be one hour for the first boat to finish
PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
- Protest forms are available in the office of the clubhouse at the club.
- Protests shall be delivered to the club within 20 minutes after the race committee signal boat docks, and delivered to the PRO (lead) of the day.
- Notices will be determined that day after the races.
SCORING
- Races are scheduled per fleet per day.
- Each series of races are scheduled on our calendar. We use the RYA & Portsmouth Yardstick to handicap our races and encourage all to participate. All scores will count. Refer to Race Rules for allowed a throw outs. One race constitutes a series.
- The score sheet should contain the sail number, skipper, the type of boat, and the Elapsed time for each race.
CLASSES
- Wednesdays - a single start for all sailboats.
- Sunday's Two Fleets
- A Single Handed Fleet for boats designed to be sailed solo. (Ex. Laser, Sunfish, Force 5)
- All others are in the so called Handicapped Fleet. (Ex. FS, DS, 420)
- Windsurfers will be scored for their position of finish and a copy given to the windsurfer's representative.
